Carrygerry Country House Irish Traditional Pancake Recipe
Pancakes were a traditional way of Shrove Tuesday, or Mairt na hInide, to use up surplus eggs, butter and milk. Irish tradition had it that successful Pancake tossing was a sign of success in finding a marriage partner. Niall & his team would like to share with you their traditional Pancake recipe which is available on our Breakfast Menu with Carrygerry Stewed Apple.
Carrygerry Country House Pancake Recipe
Ingredients :
4oz white flour,
pinch of salt
1 egg
half pint milk
half oz. melted butter
1 oz. sugar
1 lemon
Method:
1.Sieve flour & salt into a bowl, make a well in centre
2.Add egg & gradually add milk whisk to a smooth batter
3. Mix in melted butter
4. Heat the pancake pan, add a little oil, heat until hot.
5. Add enough mixture to cover the bottom of pan thinly and cook for a few seconds until brown, turn & cook on the other side.
6. Turn onto a plate & sprinkle with Lemon & Sugar. Fold in half & then half again
